Austin is the capital of the State of Texas and is considered as the 13th most populated city within the United States of America. Its metropolitan center is known as the economic and cultural center of the city. During the 19th century, the city experienced a growth and eventually became the center for education and government. During the 1980’s, the city once again experienced a growth and eventually became a center for business and technology, with many Fortune 500 companies located within the city. With the diverse mixture of people in Austin, from government personnel, local and foreign students, white collar and blue collar workers to musicians and other artists, the city has become a melting pot for a variety of industries and has gained a rich and equally diverse local culture. In addition to this, Austin is known as a “Clean Air City” due to their non-smoking ordinances.

The Bass Concert Hall, a famous performance arts theater located within the city of Austin, was opened to the public in 1981 and is able to seat about 2,900 people. Considered as the largest theatre in Austin, this concert hall houses an equally large stage, a mammoth backstage area, great rigging and sound systems, an adequate amount of dressing rooms to accommodate approximately more than 100 performers and an orchestra pit which can hold about 100 musicians. The Bass Concert Hall also houses an impressive café which serves a variety of dishes. In recent renovations, the concert hall was given an additional lobby space. Private parties are also allowed within certain areas of the theater as well.

The Frank Erwin Center, also known as the Frank C. Erwin Jr. Special Events Center, is located within the campus grounds of the University of Texas. This multi-purpose arena, also referred to as “The Drum”, is the current home court of the women’s and men’s basketball teams of the University of Texas. The Frank Erwin Center contains an upper mezzanine and a lower arena which can approximately accommodate 16,755 people.
