Along with the cities of Las Vegas and Reno, Atlantic City, located within the state of New Jersey, is also known for a city ideal for leisure time, conventions and of course, gambling. One cool fact about this city is that it was the main inspiration in creating Monopoly, a famous board game. Officially becoming a city in 1854, Atlantic City is considered as a popular destination for both local and foreign tourists.
As earlier mentioned, Atlantic City was the main source of inspiration for the now-classic game called Monopoly. Many of the property names on the board game were based on actual places within the city such as Marvin Gardens, Short Line and Electric Garden to name a few. Asides from being the inspiration of the game, Atlantic City is also popular for its many destination attractions. Some of these establishments include the Absecon Light, a famous lighthouse within the area and Lucy the Elephant, an architectural site which serves as a museum and is deemed as a National Landmark.
One famous venue place within Atlantic City is the Boardwalk Hall, a National Historic Landmark. Previously called the Historic Atlantic City Convention Hall, this venue is known to house a large pipe organ, which incidentally is the largest musical instrument in the world. The Boardwalk Hall was built to accommodate an approximate of 14,770 during concert performances and 10,500 during ice hockey games. Some of the events that have been hosted by this hall have included the Miss America Pageant, a Democratic National Convention as well as several concerts performed by artists such as the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.
The House of Blues, a famous group of restaurants and live concert venues all over the United States of America, has a branch located within Atlantic City. The first branch was opened to the public in 1992 and co-founded by Dan Aykroyd and Isaac Tigrett. This famous venue currently plays host to a variety of artists, both locally and internationally. Some of the House of Blues locations also include a VIP membership club called the Foundation Room.
Another venue location within Atlantic City is the Atlantic City Convention Center. This spacious convention center was opened to the public in 1997 and features 1,400 parking slots for guests, 45 meeting rooms and 5 different exhibit halls. It is also conveniently located near a Sheraton Hotel. In addition to this, the Atlantic City Convention Center is also attached to the Atlantic City Rail Terminal.
