WWE: Raw Tickets

Before January 11, 1993, WWE featured Prime Time Wrestling and it was a weekly show where fans could watch the highlights of featured matches for the week. On this day, Monday Night Raw premiered and the one thing that distinguished it and made it more appealing to wrestling fans is that it was a live show once every two weeks. The show featured the best wrestlers of the time and pitted them against each other in gung ho matches.

The first editions of the show were held at the Manhattan Center in New York. However, towards the end of the year, Monday Night Raw went on the road. On September 4, 1995, World Championship Wrestling started to air Monday Nitro to compete with Raw in the same timeslot. This signaled the advent of Monday Night War. Monday Nitro had one advantage over Raw in that it aired live each week and would reveal the results of Raw matches when Raw was airing a recorded show. It was no surprise then that by the end of the following year WWE Raw was losing in the ratings game.

It would be more than a decade later that WWE would make moves to recover their edge in the Monday Night War. WWE began Raw is War on March 10, 2007. The newly formatted show featured what has come to be known today as the “Attitude Era” where wrestlers were perceived to go beyond the allowable boundaries of sexuality and vulgarity. Thus wrestlers such as Sable and D-Generation X were born. The new format was successful and WWE became the top wrestling company within just two years. It was also during the period that WWE produced another wrestling show for the UPN Network called Smackdown. Monday Night War was officially won by WWE on March 26, 2011. As a result of their success, professional wrestling became a WWE virtual monopoly even as the Extreme Championship Wrestling folded out just a few months before. However, the unthinkable events of 9/11 intervened and Raw is War ceased to be aired.

Monday Night Raw was brought back to the USA Network on October 3, 2005 and starting in 2009, a guest, either a wrestler or a well-known celebrity hosted the show but this gimmick only lasted for a year.
