San Jose, the third largest city of California, is more famously known as the first capital of California after it became a state in 1850. Now it is the capital of Silicon Valley and the largest city in the Northern California region. From being a small farming city, it advanced after the World War II and by the 1990s, with the upsurge in high-tech development centered in Silicon Valley, its economy experienced an overwhelming boost and it obtained the status of global city.

Being in close proximity to some of the largest universities and biggest employers in the country, San Jose residents are some of the most educated in the country and have the highest median household income and highest disposable income in all of the United States. Because of this, it also ranks among the top cities with the highest cost of living.

The HP Pavilion, more commonly called The Shark Tank, is the home of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks and the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. The HP Pavilion is one of the top grossing venues in the world, coming in at fourth place. It has also been host to almost every major music concert in the city from Madonna and Britney Spears to Lady Gaga, Metallica, ColdPlay and Taylor Swift.

The San Jose Civic Auditorium, more commonly called the San Jose Civic, is a 3,000 seat arena for sports and music events. It was built in the Spanish mission style architecture in 1934 and has been a popular venue for a variety of events, which even includes an anti-war rally headed by former president Richard Nixon. Its striking architectural design is a total must-see especially when it’s all lit up in the evening. Since 2007, the San Jose Civic has been undergoing refurbishments to upgrade its facilities and include state-of-the-art technology for its audio-visual systems.

The Even Center Arena located in the campus of the San Jose State University is mainly a popular venue for sports, particularly the NCAA and WNCAA as it is the home of the SJSU Spartans. But aside from hosting the various activities of the school, it has also been a venue for some music performances with a seating capacity of 6,500 for concerts and 4,600 for basketball games.
