Michaels was born on March 15, 1963, as Bret Michael Sychak, to parents Wally and Marjorie Sychak. A native of Butler Pennsylvania, located north of Pittsburg, he has two sisters namely, Michelle and Nicole. His parents originally intended to have for him the middle name "Maverick". Maverick was the lead character of the popular Western TV series, Maverick by James Garner. When he was seven years old, he stayed in the hospital for three long weeks. After a series of tests and ample observation, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. He has been living with the condition ever since, but this never stopped him from delivering high-energy performances every time he takes center stage.

In 2007, Michaels tried being on tv doing a reality tv show, VH1’s Rock of Love. Michaels also tried his luck on Donald’s Trump reality show and won the 2010 edition of the Celebrity Apprentice. As the lead singer in the famous hair metal band Poison, Bret Michaels is known for his cowboy hats and bandanas. He is a major rock icon from the 1980s.
