The Baltimore Ravens is the professional football team located in Baltimore, Maryland. They are a member of the National Football League under the AFC North Division. The Ravens is a ‘quasi-expansion franchise’ that originated in Cleveland as the Cleveland Browns in 1996. Since the 1996 season, the teams name became Baltimore Ravens because of a fan contest which was said to be inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem entitled The Raven.

The triumph of the Baltimore Ravens against the New York Giants during the 2000 season earned them the honor of becoming one of the four NFL teams along with New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New York Jets to win during their only Super Bowl Appearance. According to the recent 2012 poll the Baltimore Ravens Team in 2000 is rated as the second greatest NFL team of the Super Bowl era. The success of the Baltimore Ravens is very much evident because they have been in the playoffs eight times since 2000. They also won the AFC North three times in 2003, 2006 and 2011. They also launched the careers of big names such as Jonathan Ogden, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis.

In 2011, the veterans Wills McGahee, Todd Heap, Kelly Gregg and Derrick Mason were cut for salary cap space and decided to acquire Vonta Leach, Lee Evans, Ricky Williams and Bernard Pollard as replacements. The new addition in the team caused some changes in the offensive line that led to their success. Their 2011 season is considered as one of the most successful seasons in the franchise history of the Baltimore Ravens. They finished the season with an outstanding 6-0 in the division, 8-0 at home and 6-0 during the playoffs. In 2012, the Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl.
