In the 2013 Grammy Awards, the American rock band Alabama Shakes received three nominations: best new artist, best rock performance (for their single “Hold On," and best recording package for their first album (Boys & Girls). The group consists of lead singer Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, and drummer Steve Johnson.
Alabama Shakes started when band members Brittany Howard and Zac Cockrell went to school together at East Limestone High School in Athens where they began writing songs. They recruited then local music store employee Steve Johnson and began to record the songs they have written with producer Jeremy Stephens in Decatur, Alabama. Upon hearing the demo, Heath Fogg.
