The man behind the screen name 2 Chainz was born Tauheed Epps on September 12, 1977. He first joined the music entertainment industry as part of the hip hop duo Playaz Circle together with rapper Earl “Dolla Boy” Conyers in 1997. 2 Chainz (Tauheed Epps) was then introduced as Tity Boi and is still known to many as such. Playaz Circle caught the interest of then DJ/rapper Ludacris who eventually signed them to his then newly formed record label Disturbing Tha Peace, a sub-label of Def Jams Recordings.
The duo was releasing hits and making a name for themselves in 2010 when Tity Boi (Epps) decided to advance his career despite the reluctance of Ludacris. In 2011, Tauheed Epps reentered the music scene as 2 Chainz and released a mixtape entitled T.R.U. REALigion which quickly peaked at number 58 on the Billboard Chart. This was followed by collaborations with popular artists such as Kanye West and Nicki Minaj.
Following this success, 2 Chains released his debut studio album, Based on a T.R.U Story starting with the album’s lead single “NO Lie” on May 8, 2012. The album which earned mixed reviews has sold 288,000 copies in the third quarter of 2012.
