Professional golf players in the U.S. and Europe compete during the Ryder Cup every two years. The competition between teams from the two continents was through the efforts and collaborations of PGA of American and the Europe-based PGA that was inspired by a game in 1926. Following the name of an English businessman who first sponsored the trophies used for the Cup, the first Ryder Cup was witnessed in 1927 in Massachusetts and only saw an almost equal in performance hence making the competition a mere exhibition of talents and gold skills. However, the scene and game plan changed after World War II that saw more and more teams from different States in America and players from other parts of Europe other than Great Britain. Players from Ireland and Spain, Belgium, France, Denmark, Sweden and Italy also joined the Ryder Cup.

Professional golf players from world over came to take part in the Ryder Cup despite the lack of monetary rewards or prizes in the said competition unlike its counterpart, Presidents Cup. However, players are seemingly not after the monetary reward despite the big amount earned from sponsorship deals and telecasts. Yet, the glory and pride of playing against and beating other professional golfers from the other side of the globe is more than enough compensation for the already high-profile golfers with the likes of Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Neil Coles, Bernhard Langer, Ian Woosnam, Ian Poulter and many others for the Europe-based PGA while the U.S.A. players are Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Arnold Palmer, Jack Burke, Walter Hagen, Sam and J.C. Nead, Jimmy Demaret, Horton Smith, and many others. The popularity of Ryder Cup saw great anticipation from golf fans and supporters across the globe that the bid as to where it should be held is tighter than ever. This 2012 Ryder Cup Season, the game was held in Medinah Country Club in the State of Illinois and since the Cup was held in the U.S, it will grace fans in Europe, probably in Scotland this coming 2014.
