It is not a surprise to see artists coming from groups or bands to pursue solo careers. It may be because of any other reason but it doesn’t change the fact that while others acquire a new wave of fame and career, some turn out to be not very lucky. To say that Morrissey got multiple strokes of luck is an understatement. Morrissey rose to international acclaim as the front man of one of the most influential rock bands in history, The Smiths. They produced four studio albums and released a number of chart-topping songs that are considered classics of the British independent music scene. The Smiths broke up in the late 1980s but their music gained a cult following even after years have passed.

After they disbanded, Morrissey saw this as an opportunity for him to try his luck alone. He embarked on his solo career and soared even higher as he made it to the UK Singles Chart’s top ten for a total of ten times. He eventually earned more followers and was regarded as one of the most important music icons of today. Just a few months after The Smiths broke up, Morrissey released his first solo album, Viva Hate. After which, he came up with Kill Uncle, which climbed its way to number eight on the UK charts. A string of albums and singles followed suit and he solidified his place in the music industry even more. He experienced a lot of highs and lows that influenced the way he does his music. He also gave himself some time off, not producing any albums for about four years. He bounced back after that with the release of his seventh album, You Are the Quarry in 2004. His last studio album, Years of Refusal was released in 2009.

Morrissey was hailed as one of “The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time according to Rolling Stone magazine. Although he has been a part of many controversies and publicity because of his opinions, beliefs, and advocacies, he remains to be a true blue musician. Morrissey is a musical legend with good reason.
