Sarah Brightman

Sarah Brightman is a British classical crossover soprano, dancer, actress, and songwriter. She was born in August 14, 1960 in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England. She began learning the piano and dancing at three and performed in local competitions and festivals. At 11, her talents qualified her to study performing arts at the prestigious Arts Education School in Tring Park. Two years later, she made her first theatrical appearance in the musical I and Albert at the Piccadilly Theater in London. After joining a couple of dance troupes such as Hot Gossip, she went solo in 1978 and released hotselling disco singles like "Not Having That!". The next year, she appeared on the soundtrack of the film, The World is Full of Married Men with her song "Madam Hyde".

Brightman starred in several musicals in the early '80s and married one of her admirers, the composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. Her fame had reached celestial heights when she played Christine in Lloyd Webber's adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera in the late '80s.

Brightman and Webber divorced in 1990. She then embarked on a solo career. In 1992, she sang with Jose Carreras at the Barcelona Olympic Games the theme "Amigos Para Siempre"("Friends Forever"). Later, she worked with Enigma producer, Frank Peterson to record her Gold award-winning album, Dive, released in 1993. Her 2nd album, produced again by Peterson, Fly(1995) with its famous operatic single, "A Question of Honor".

The album, Timeless was released in 1997, then shortly followed in that same year a concert DVD, Sarah Brightman: In Concert At The Royal Albert Hall. Eden(1998). The album became a certified Gold, reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Classical Crossover chart and 65 on Billboard 200. Five more albums would follow that would mark her as the modern day queen of the opera, ushering the classical discipline into a new era. She sang in the Olympic Games, again, in 2008 in Beijing, this time with Chinese singer, Liu Huan to the song "You and Me".

In 2012 in joint effort with Virgin Galactic, The Brightman STEM Scholarship program (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) was launched to help young women in the US pursue STEM education in college. She was appointed as the UNESCO artist for peace from 2012-2014.
