After more than four decades, 20 studio albums, 24 gold records, 14 platinum (including 3 multi-platinum) and 40 million record copies sold world wide, Rush is finally going to be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Composed of Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee and Neil Peart, Rush has been an inspiration for a lot of rock musicians ever since they released their first album in 1974. Individually, the band members are considered the best musicians ever to play their particular instruments.

Rush has represented hard rock and heavy metal, with a clear emphasis on storytelling and musicality. They are not like any other rock band content on creating loud music. Their experimentation have lead them to critical and commercial success with hard rock, and has lead them to mainstream music. They have also delved deeply into progressive rock, with inspiration from science fiction and high fantasy. The lyrics of their songs show the literary basis of their inspiration, which range from fantasy literature and science fiction, classical poetry, as well as the works of Ayn Rand.

Through the years of experimentation and exploration, the band has kept a loyal fan base which has followed them through every eclectic turn of rock genre. It has been said that because of their fan base, Rush is the Star Trek of Rock. It is no wonder that their inspiration and their songs are geeky.

Though they have not been pursuing superstardom, their longevity and volume of work has created for them a class all their own. Except for a break from performing from 1997 to 2005, Rush has been in and out of studios and on the concert scene. Compared to other bands during the 1970s and are still active till now, Rush is not that well-known. Which doesn't faze them a bit. They are very much content with their fans, and for inspiring other musicians who are just starting out.
