How the Grinch Stole Christmas

How The Grinch Stole Christmas Tickets

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a story written by Theodor Seuss Geisel. It was published in 1957. The book criticizes the consumerism and materialism that prevails during the Christmas season. In the story, the Grinch decided to prevent the coming celebration of Christmas that year and to do so he had to steal all of the Christmas presents of Whoville inhabitants. He did succeed in his plot but the inevitable still happened. Christmas came and all the people of Whoville rejoiced. The Grinch then came to realize that the celebration of Christmas goes beyond gift giving. He was touched by what he observed and in the end, decided to return all the things he stole. The Whoville inhabitants were able to celebrate Christmas, filled with holiday spirit and grateful cheers. This endearing Christmas story has been adapted and made into an audio book, a live action and animated movie.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas has also been adapted as a musical. The first ever production of the musical show was on November 1994 in the Minneapolis’ Children’s Theatre Company. The original score was written by Mel Marvin with lyrics by Timothy Mason. The show was choreographed by John DeLuca. The show was also produced since 1998 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. The character Cindy Lou Who was played by Vanessa Hudgens who was still an unknown singer at the time. The musical eventually made it to Broadway where it was directed by Matt August, with original score created by Mel Marvin. The Broadway version made its debut at the Hilton Theatre, now known as the Foxwoods Theatre, on November 8, 2006, just in time for the Christmas season. The musical had its final performance on January 7, 2007. One significant fact about the show’s Broadway run is that it became the first musical in Broadway to have 12 weekly performances. It had a revival at the St. James Theatre, opening on November 9, 2007, with performances totalling 96. The show went on a limited tour during the 2008 Christmas season and followed with a national tour in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
